I Fried an Egg Yesterday

Yesterday I cooked two perfect sunny-side up eggs. Most people probably take something like this for granted, but I've always struggled with this seemingly simple task. The eggs have always ended up too runny or too done. As a result, I've mainly stuck with making scrambled eggs over the years. Very hard to screw those up.

Anyway, the secret to figuring out sunny-side up eggs was this book: How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman (http://www.amazon.com/How-Cook-Everything-Simple-Recipes/dp/0471789186/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216467564&sr=8-1). It does what it says on the cover and it has been tremendously helpful this summer as I've tried to learn to cook things.

Highly recommended.

I will have to look in to this. I have also been a "safe scrambler" for many years.

By the way, that newer post/older post thingy showed up, just like you said it would!

Dude, Why would you even want an sunny side up egg? Everyone knows that you really should cook eggs over hard so that bullets should bounce off them. Sheesh!

Yum, I love dipping toast in the runny yolks!

I too am (as Holly said) a "safe scrambler"...scrambled eggs just cannot be messed up. Kind of like mac & cheese.

I need that book. We eat way too much M&C at our house...SOME people like it that way, though!

By the way Chris, Hans IS also reading your blog every day, but he's so snobby about commenting, so don't expect much from him. I've been blogging for almost three years and have only a handful of comments from Hans!

I'm also enjoying your blog, Chris. I love hearing about your sons and what all of you are up to -- washing windows, cooking, shopping, taking the boys out to play. You're setting the bar rather high, aren't you? I say, "Good for you!"

Hey there Uncle Chris, your Nephew Spencer wants to weigh in on the sunny side up egg debate. He says that Sunny Side Up is the best, but truly tricky. The way he recommends going about it is lower heat and a cover over the egg. This should get get extra heat to the top so that the whites are completely cooked. Plus the yolks are yummy. He should know, he's 12 and been cooking them for at least 2 months.
